Halloween spider cookies

These aren’t vegan, healthy or special low-sugar. These are just super yummy halloween-themed cookies.

I had all of the ingredients in my cupboard and they are super simple to make with the kids too! They’re crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, filled with chocolate and super peanutty.

Get creative with these! The ones shown are more true to the recipe but we also tried some different styles with chocolate buttons and marshmallows. So have fun!

Equipment

  • Electric whisk (optional)

Ingredients

  • 70 g butter softened
  • 50 g natural peanut butter crunchy or smooth
  • 150 g light brown sugar
  • 1 egg medium
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 180 g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 20 malteasers
  • 80 g chocolate milk, dark
  • 20 g chocolate white

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 180C and place baking paper onto two baking trays.
  • Use an electric whisk (or beat it yourself - we did!) to mix the butter, peanut butter and sugar together. You want the mixture to become light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla and beat until properly combined.
  • Then add the flour, a pinch of salt and the bicarbonate of soda.
  • Take a tablespoon and scoop 12-15 spoons of mixture into balls and place them on the tray. Leave enough space of them to spread whilst baking. Then press your (clean!) thumb into the middle of each one to create an indent.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until slightly golden at the edges and soft in the middle.
  • Whilst the cookies cool, melt both chocolates gradually in the microwave (or in a bain marie on the hob).
  • Add some dark or milk chocolate to the centre of each biscuit and put a malteaser on top. Then using a cocktail stick, add the dark/milk chocolate spiders legs. Finally, use another cocktail stick to dot the white chocolate eyes onto the malteaser 'head'!
